Character History

Biography:
14th July 1924, the cries of Ellis Kathleen Ashton drifted from the master bedroom. A mid wife had been called and everyone held their breath, waiting for the birth of the third Ashton child. The young master Christopher Ashton and his sister Jacqueline Ashton had been cleared off to the nursery by their nanny to wait.

Twelve hours after the first labour pains began, the tiny cry of a baby drew everyone who had been patiently waiting out the hours into the room.

---------------------------------

"It's a girl Mr Ashton." the messenger reported to the man by the fire place who had only recently reached his early thirties.

"Thank you Jeremy, you may go now." Alexander Joshia Ashton dismissed the man with a curt nod and a small smile. "Oh and Jeremy," He added to the retreating messenger. "You might like to keep you know what a secret."

"Very good sir." Jeremy smiled. It wasn't easy to act the family friend all the time especially in the presence of his master even though he had been ordered to do so, but he did a reasonable good job. He knew his master was one who believed in independence and did not want his decendents to depend too much on what he kept hidden and locked away in various banks in the muggle and wizard worlds. As quietly as he had arrived, the messenger left for the master bed room to play his assumed role again.

Alexander Ashton smiled to himself for a moment as he returned his gaze to the tarot cards he had drawn for his child and the vision he had read on the crystal ball. He had known it would be a girl even before this. She would be like him in a sense that she would have the same foresight. But it would be a while before she would be able to use her gift well. Perhaps a few earlier experiences would be slightly frightening to her but still she would know her place in time and he had no intention of stepping in when that happened. Like the Ashtons before her, she had inherited their talent for divinity and she would learn the ropes herself.

------------------------------

Nine year old Adreanna Ashton lay sprawled on the hill close to her home. Beside her lay an open portfolio filled with sketches of the little creatures that dwelled in the nearby trees as well as pictures of faeries she designed using her imagination for those shy creatures never stayed still long enough for her to have a good look of them. Bright green eyes starred dreamily at the sky above her, watching the passing clouds. Looking at the cotton like bodies defying gravity made her think of something she had read in a muggle book entitled Pilgrim's Progress. She wasn't one much for religion, but the book had said something about cloud castles, and that was what the volumous cotton candy clouds looked like to her now. Castles from a dream.

Castles... Adreanna drifted off into another of her day dreams, sighing softly to herself as she envisioned the cloud castle in her mind, moulding it into her sub conscious memory to dream about later on. Quite suddenly the clouds turned into a dark grey hue, like that of stone before solidifying into a real castle under the light of the moon surrounded by an enourmous body of water. From a bird's eye view she saw a group of people dressed in black robes like those Papa wore sometimes when he was not going anywhere that had muggles or to some convention by the Ministry of Magic.Thegroup she saw now looked a lot like those at the Ministry, only these people were smaller in build, like, children... There was a familiar blonde figure not too far away down below her. When she moved closer she saw... herself.

Adreanna sat up in a shock. It was not the first time she had seen snippets of that place nor of herself. The first time she started seeing visions of that castle was when she was five. Where was that place anyway? Why did she always see herself there? And there were always a few faces she would see repeatedly in the same location as her envisioned persona. Perhaps when she was older it would all mean something to her.

She remembered there was once, before her sixth birthday she had been running along the hallway to the dining room and stopped to look into a mirror that hung halfway down the passage. As soon as her gaze shifted onto a nearby vase, she remembered feeling as if she was wretched into another world and saw herself in the study with her father who was telling her how he would be leaving for two weeks to another part of the world after her birthday but he would try and make it up to her when she returned. Baffled by what it meant, she had dismissed it from her mind. A week later Adreaanna slipped into the study just in time for her father to break the news to her.

"I'll be going away for..." Alexander Ashton started as he looked up from a letter he had just recieved.

"Two weeks. I know Papa, you told me." Adreanna spoke up from her corner, her arms wrapped around one of her grey and white kittens, one hand running through their striped fur.

Her father looked at her in surprise for a moment before a look of recollection appeared on his face that was soon replaced by a smile.

"Are you sure now my darling? I already told you?" He inquired, tactfully putting the letter aside among his other papers to look as if he had just been looking through his work. Patting his lap he gestured for his daughter to come to him.

An angelic smile formed on Adreanna's face as she ran up to her father and allowed herself to be lifted onto his lap. "Yes Papa, you told me last week."

Thirty eight year old Alexander Ashton smiled. His prophecy had not been wrong.

Adreanna sighed, things had changed since then. After those two weeks her father had returned sterner than before and a lot more irritable. He had his happy moments when he would allow her to sit with him in the study, but only if she was quiet and did not bother him. He was receptive to her questions but he often left her to find the answers out for herself after a hint or two. True she had learnt how to manage on her own but she prefered it if she could have the same loving, doting father back again. Adreanna swore she would one day prove herself good enough for her father to give her even a minute of his attention.

The distant striking sound of the clock tower bells told her it would soon be time for supper and she would have to get home soon. The girl glanced behind her should breifly, her blonde hair falling over her shoulders as she cast a last look at the sky behind her and let out another sigh, she would be back again tomorrow afternoon.

----------------------------

The castle of her childhood dreams on the hill had turned out to be the castle of Hogwarts, school of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the group of children stepping out of boats first year students after crossing the great lake that surrounded the castle. Adreanna remembered how it had all seemed as if it was happening again for the second time, only she was now among the people and not watching someone from above. That had been quite a few years ago already and it wouldn't be long before she would be among those who had to take their OWLs to be sorted accordingly to those who retained and those who were promoted to their sixth year.

Time had a strange way of flying when she was in school. She dreaded every summer when they were all forced to return to their homes. At least she was something in school, at home, she was nothing but the youngest child. Unlike what everyone else had said about her being fortunate, her life had been quite the contrary. No matter what she did to grasp their attention, it never seemed to succeed and there was nothing she feared to try. She had tried just about everything she could think of. She remembered scoring full marks for her exams in her first year but that had hardly gotten anything more than a "Good job." from her parents. She tried the reverse in her second year and failed subject after subject. The only thing she had gotten was a highly disappointed glance. A glance. That was all she got. If they had bothered even to lift a finger to strike her she would have treasured the moment, but she had receieved only one, fleeting, glance.

She tasted salt as silent tears treakled down her cheek. As she brushed them away with the back of her robe sleeve, Adreanna shut the journal she had been attempting to write. Sometimes she wondered why she bothered. Was anything that happened in her life worth recording anyway? Without another thought she flung the book as far as she could manage over the low wall that stopped her from falling off the castle rooftop.

Chapter: Where the hearts meet not

A slight evening breeze blew over the lakeside. The place had been beautifully decorated to create the perfect Halloween ambience. Pumpkins have been made into Jack-o-lanterns and the candles placed in them dimly lit up the area, covering it with an aura of mystery. Arizce walked slowly along the lakeside. Small lotus candles were floating beautiful in the azure waters as soft ripples continuously moving towards the other side of the lake, sending the lotus further and further away from shore.

A quick study left her an impression of up most beauty. Skeletons were hung around and people were dressed in many different kinds of beautiful costumes that were either scary or absolutely gorgeous. Arizce had once again decided to go with black, her favourite colour, and hence had gone as a vampire. Consciously, she ran her tongue slightly over her fake fangs, feeling the sharp ends against her tongue. She looked around, as if in search for something. She knew something was missing from her life; she just didn’t know what.

Another form soon entered the bewitching scene. Riccardo slowly decended the steps towards the party grounds. Beside him was Marilyn, tightly grasping his arm. Riccardo glared slightly at her. He didn’t like the way she stuck on to him, or the way she behaved but he had to do it. He had to forget Arizce and get back at her.

Gently, he smoothed his vampire cloak with his free arm. From afar he might have appeared to be attempting to swip the hands of his vixen companion away. The way Marilyn dressed disgusted Riccardo. From the skimpy body hugging suit to her stelitto heels. But all the same he kept those thoughts to himself.

He didn’t enjoy having to attend balls, especially with a partner he did not like. But this had not been much of his choice. Marilyn would have wailed like a baby right in front of the crowd had he not complied to her whims. Trying his best to ignore her presence, Riccardo scanned the area.

A speck of black and white caught his eye. He spotted Arizce in the sea of faces, standing in the middle of the crowd like a lost child. She had too had came as a vampire and was dressed in a turtleneck with pants and a cloak billowing to the wind behind her. Her pale blond hair was pulled into a simple French twist. Riccardo found himself staring slightly at her.

Still as beautiful... Rizce, I miss you. Why can’t I just bring myself to tell you that I love you, why?

Thoughts aside, Ryuu continued to observe Arizce, oblivious that Marilyn had walked on ahead of him. He only nodded in acknowledgement when she beckoned to him and started to follow her lead; trying his best not to think of Arizce, and to cast her aside. If it hadn't been for his pride, he would be with her right now and who knew what they'd be doing? No... he couldn't think of that. His pride would not allow it.

"Come on Ryuu. Be quick now or we'll miss the show!" Marilyn's childish voice interupted his train of thoughts.

Ah yes... Ryuu... the name he went by in public. That was a nick name he had gone by since childhood. Of course now that he was an adolescent it had become his second identity. Barely anyone except his family knew him by his birth name... exceot for Arizce...

There she was again. Couldn't he just get her out of her mind? Forcing himself to push her aside in his mind Riccardo strod on after Marilyn. But his anger and jealousy was inevitable when he saw Kevin walked up to her and put his arm around her. Though he was too prideful to confess, his true feelings could not be ignored.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Arizce stood, confused in the middle of the crowd around her. She blinked her pale grey eyes, not knowing what she was trying to do. She whipped her head around, only to see Ryuu and Marilyn walking down the stairs. Arizce’s eyes fell slightly. She did not want to see him together with someone else. Darn her pride. Why couldn’t she just tell him and get over with it. Arizce took another glance at him. He still looked the same as before, as charming as ever. Arizce knew it was going to be hard for her to forget him, but perhaps, it wouldn’t be so hard in the end, afterall, with her illness there would be no other option. Arizce sighed slightly and willed herself not to look at him. Tears were already threatening to roll down her face when suddenly; she felt someone's arm around her shoulder.

“Hi, Arizce.” Kevin said, greeting her politely. Arizce nodded her head in acknowledgement of Kevin's greeting, although, her heart wanted to turn her head back towards Ryuu and lose herself in those mesmerizing yellow eyes of his before she left this world. However, Kevin had already put his arm around her shoulder and had begun to lead her towards the drink stand. Arizce turned around and took one last look at Ryuu before she sadly turned her head and allowed Kevin to lead her away.

Ryuu, you know I’ll always have you in my mind.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Ryuu yawned slightly. Balls were never fun, he did not know how he managed to let Marilyn cajole him into going to the ball. Worse of all, he was stuck with Marilyn, "his fox vixen" (or so she declared) while having to witness Arizce dance with other men. He didn’t like it one bit, but there was no way he was going to admit it. He did not know if Arizce felt the same way, and did not wish to be deemed a fool in her eyes. Unknowingly, his eyes searched for her presence again and that was when he saw her, dancing slowly with Kevin who held her tight in his arms. Ryuu did not know whether Arizce enjoyed it, though his memory prompted that her expression had been drastically different when he held her close to him. Did she enjoy his embrace more or Kevin’s? Ryuu’s fists clenched as he glared at Kevin, seething as he thought how he should be the one holding her now and not him. A slight tug on his shirt snatched him from his thoughts. As soon as he had turned round, he felt a kiss planted squarely on his lips.

~Epilogue~

Cold and merciless the winter wind howled; blowing hard against frail shivering trees and scattering the last of their dried burdens towards the south. The gate of the main cemetery creaked on it's frozen hinges as a figure swung it open without making physical contact. More gates swung open in the stranger's path until he finally arrived at the crypt of the Martins.

"We meet again my darling Arizce..." A mellow voice murmured as its owner knelt down on one knee, placing a bouquet of long-stemmed roses before the grave.

Unlike the other Martins who lay either in the crypt's vault or in slots along the crypt walls Arizce Martin lay in a separate memorial wing of her own. The Nefis family had made sure of that on his request.

"It has been a long time since we last spoke face to face." Riccardo began. But he could say no more. His words invoked his own misery as the memory flooded back into his mind.

"Riccardo I... I love you... I always will... but I have to go now... don't forget me..."

"No, you can't go. you can't!"

"Lord Riccardo... My Riccardo... Ri..."

"No!!! Arizce! Don't leave me! Wake up! I love you! I... love you... Arizce..."

Tears streamed from the once bright honey-yellow eyes, splashing soundlessly onto the polished marble that marked Arizce's grave. The memory of that fateful night still stung like a fresh wound even though more than a year had passed.

"I will never forgive myself Arizce. I just can't. I haven't found the heart to love another... I never will... I'm yours and yours alone..." the mournful lord muttered, his tears still a continuous stream.

Though drowning in his misery, his senses were still keen. He knew he wasn't alone.

As his head remained bowed, the hidden assasin crept forward as quietly as a hunter about to catch his prey, until he was within striking distance. And still, Riccardo did not move. Without a moment's hesitation the murderer-to-be drew out his weapon and aimed it at the back of Riccardo's head. A second's pause was soon followed by the sound of a gunshot ringing like a siren across the silent cemetery.

For a moment, Riccardo's last moments seemed to unfurl in slow motion as his form fell forward, onto the marble steps. His face bore an expression of peaceful contentment set in a half smile as his body lay strewn across the sacred steps.

I'm now truely yours Arizce... now and forever...

Biagraphy of Raelyn L'Baan Seah

Original Work of amanda.faith

Status: Biography for role play application/Brief History of Raelyn L'Baan Seah

31st October1930¦
The day when autumn was in its last phase¦
In the master bedroom of Paradise Lodge, the cry of a newborn baby could be
heard. Raelyn L'Baan was born.

This was the girl that made many gasp upon birth, and much is expected of this
astonishing babe. Her parents had expected blackish pupils when the infant
opened her eyes to behold the world for the first time. Instead of the normal
black, as it took time for the true colors of the pupils to show, Turquoise
spheres darted left and right as the little babe visually explored the world for
the first time.

The descendent of a long line of wizards and other mystical magic folks, strange
things often occurred during the birth of an L’Baan. Could she be another link
to the mysterious L’Baans of the past?

A brunette by birth, the feminine and streamline frame of Raelyn L’Baan streaked
through the clear blue water effortlessly. A full height of about 1.68m in
height, Raelyn was a lover of the water and spent most of her time since her
birth in the open sea. It was during her earliest experiences in the water where
she met a dolphin that she named Dar, her own feminine version of the name
‘Dart’ which was exactly what the dolphin seemed to be doing in the water. She
had spent most of her early childhood in the water with together with Dar and
her Norwegian Elkhound Chaska. Happy as it may seam, her past was one that was
dark. One would never have expected that the girl would be able to emerge from
it still cheerful and friendly.

Her father, Mac L’Baan, though a wizard, was a high-ranking officer working for
the British army. During the Second World War, Mac L’Baan was sent away to
assist the commanding officers of the British army in Singapura. Together with
Mac, the L’Baan family moved from the comfort of their sea front home to the
backward and cramped kampong living of the little island off the southern tip of
the Malayan peninsular.

Life seemed all too good to be true since that day in 1939. Life went uneventful
for some time before that day when Raelyn decided to wander along the streets of
china town. That was the day she met the good natured Jose Chow. One wouldn’t
have realised her new friend was disabled until one was told. Jose was deaf.
They had become fast friends since that day. The French girl soon began to tell
of her childhood story whenever they met to play. As time went by, the two girls
soon knew each other as if they were sisters. Three years passed without a
disturbance, until the fateful Chinese New Year day in 1942.

It was then they were separated and Raelyn’s close knit family circle was
shattered beyond any hope of reparation. Mac L’Baan was believed to be together
with the British soldiers who fled the island during the invasion, leaving the
helpless locals and English settlers to fend for themselves against the
advancing Japanese soldiers. Her mother, Eleanor L’Baan, an artist and a
housewife, was killed during one of the Japanese air raids. The shrapnel from
the exploding bomb pierced through her body at many places, killing her
instantly. Though it was a painful experience for the little girl, Raelyn felt
it was a blessing that her mother had not lived long enough to feel the pain.

Parentless and alone in the ever-changing warring world, Raelyn L’Baan wandered
the streets of China town, protected only by Chaska. Feeding on what little they
could find, Raelyn ensured that her companion was well fed before proceeding to
eat.

In this fashion they continued for a few weeks until Raelyn was too weak to
continue, and collapsed at the door of a rather well to do Chinese family.

The Seah family’s housekeeper found the young Raelyn L’Baan asleep on the steps
of the family mansion. Arms still wrapped tightly around Chaska’s neck. It was
from than on that the kindly Chinese family raised the child, altering her sir
name and gave her a Chinese name to avoid unnecessary attention. So to the
people of Singapura she was known as Raelyn Seah Hui En. She would have easily
blended in with the Asians with her light tan and her slightly wavy hair if not
for her turquoise eyes and slight tints of copper brown in her hair. But then,
it was not uncommon to have Chinese marry English settlers, so she was assumed
to be a child of such a couple.

Living with the Seah family was not hard. Communication was possible as the
family was English educated. Though times were harsh and many lived in fear
during the Japanese occupation, the family managed to scrap through the three
tormenting years. Suffering loses and celebrating what little there was to enjoy
during those times. Raelyn had fought bravely through the war, nearly being
dragged off to provide cheap “comfort services” for the cruel Japanese
soldiers. The cruel Japanese set outrages punishments for people who committed
minute offences. There was also the time of hyperinflation when the currency
came to be known as “banana notes”. That was the time the Japanese began to
print too much money, more than they had gold to back up so that they could
purchase the goods sold in the black markets. During those times, it was not
just the people in concentration camps that suffered, nor was it only the
Japanese arch enemies, the Chinese, but everyone who lived on that island fell
victim to the torture of the unyielding Japanese, contradicting the name that
the island had been given, the name Syonan-to, or Light of the South. The family
only truly rejoiced the day the Japanese surrendered in the year 1945. Raelyn
emerged from the war triumphant, with a permanent scar to remind her of her
experience. She had been slashed along her right thigh during her attempt to
flee, tearing her leg muscle. Though the injury had healed, Raelyn had developed
a permanent limp because of this. This defect however, did not affect her when
she was at home in the water or any medium in which she did not have to depend
on the use of her limb.

Then, the rewarding news came. There was a ship bound for Europe, Briton, her
mother land. The news brought tears of both joy and sadness to Raelyn and the
caring family. With hugs and tears of goodbye, Raelyn was soon on her way to the
dock with a small suitcase of her own belongings and photographs to remember
them by. She had had to leave in a haste due to the revenge killings of the
people of Singapore. Many of the natives were killing the Japanese survivors
pledging revenge for those who had perished in the war. Not all British people
were spared as well, for the people considered them traitors to their Asian
colony. She was now known as Raelyn L’Baan Seah, in memory of the family that
had helped her live through the harsh three years.

It was at the dock where she was reunited with her best friend Jose. If things
weren’t surprising enough, two barn owls swooped down towards the two girls in
broad daylight as they caught up with each other. It was then that Raelyn
remembered her family roots, that she was not one like the people around her,
but that she, was a witch. Things began to fit together as the missing link came
to light. No wonder she was able to ward off the advances of a squad of drunk
Japanese. Hopefully none of the troopers would remember the bewilding incident.
The letter brought hope to the scattered lives of the two orphans of Briton
though the letter was four years behind time. Now was the chance to pick up the
pieces as Raelyn journeyed on to her next chapter of life together with Jose,
bound for Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry.
